28 Nov

Cairo Marriott has been a great supporter for initiatives that help promote Egypt as a touristic destination and as part of its continuous efforts; the hotel was a proud host for the crowning event of Miss Egypt 2017 in their palatial Aida Ballroom. The top 10 contestants were presented to the judges in an outstanding event organized by Director of Event4U, Hoda Aboud.

Iris Mittenaere, who was crowned Miss Universe in 2016 and the second French national to take the title, was one of the events judges. The Hotel’s Marketing Manager gave her an exclusive tour of the Palace and she was so impressed & intrigued by the historical facts of the Palace and even posed in front of a treasured historical artifact; the world’s first Arabic numerical clock located in Eugenie Salon.

The Cairo Marriott is a firm believer in the vision of TED and decided to continue it’s support by partnering up with TEDx Cairo Women for the second year in a row hosting the talks in their palatial Salon Vert of the Palace as part of their ongoing “Spirit to Serve” activities to support women empowerment.

TEDx events are often synonymous with inspiration. In each of the distinct TEDx talks held across Cairo lies a revelation that, sitting in the crowd, you are left wondering how you lived your life before it. The emotion of the speaker, the dedication and their command of the room only shows the surface of the hard work the speaker’s put in training.

This years theme was “Anchor” which portrays the places, people, or things that make us feel connected to our community.  Your anchor is the thing that feeds your soul and helps you feel settled and grounded.

Not only were the amazing speeches extremely inspiring including one by the famous radio presenter Sherif Madkour but it was also full of artistic performances by singer, Abu, and filmmaker, Fatma Abd Alsalam. Actress and Content producer, Gilan Alaa also added laughter among the audience with her hilarious stand-up comedy performance.

The speakers were able to bring the audience from tears to laughter and back again throughout the talks. Every single speaker had a strong and inspiring message that surely moved and will continue to motivate anyone who sees them.

Stay tuned to see all the videos that will soon unravel on the TEDx Cairo Women website; they are truly worth the wait.
